Lower Primary started this week with a new IPC unit named People of the Past.
In this unit, we will be learning about a variety of significant people who left a lasting impact on humanity through their hard work, resilience, and creativity. As historians, we will investigate the lives of several influential figures to find out about the personal qualities that enabled them to shape the world as we know it.
For our Entry Point, we started to investigate a person from the past related to our own castle, The Green Hunter. It is a story about the beautiful Gisela and Arent, also called The Green Hunter. They planned to marry each other, but robber knight Evert who lived at Eerde had also a crush on her. Evert captured Arent and put him in a dungeon beneath the castle. Both Gisela and Arent, The Green Hunter, showed a lot of resilience as they tried to get back together again. Unfortunately, the story didn’t end so well for them.
In the Goblin Hall in the castle, we found a painting of The Green Hunter in front of the Eerde castle. Afterwards, the children made their own paintings of Gisela and Arent and we spoke about feelings and emotions both must have felt. At the end of the lesson, we had a look at some old items we found a couple of years ago behind the boarding house when there was excavation work going on
