Building Pyramids from Sugar Cubes

We had an amazing start to the new year in our IPC lessons with a fun and educational activity where primary students built Egyptian pyramids using sugar cubes!

This hands-on project allowed the children to explore mathematical concepts as they measured, calculated, and discovered how essential math is in real-world applications, even when building ancient structures! The students demonstrated fantastic teamwork, working collaboratively and adapting to challenges along the way. Their hard work and cooperation led to great success, and they were proud of their finished pyramids. It was a truly enjoyable and enriching experience where they learned a lot while having fun.

Math and IPC linked: Shapes – Pyramids

In our recent Maths lessons, we made a fantastic connection with our IPC topic by exploring 3D shapes and their properties.

The students had the opportunity to study the nets of various pyramids, discovering that there are many types beyond the square-based pyramid, including triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, and even octagonal pyramids. Through hands-on activities, students built these pyramids using their nets, identifying and describing their properties such as the number of faces, edges, and vertices. It was a truly engaging and educational experience that made learning Maths memorable.

The children had so much fun that they are sure to remember how to recognize and describe these shapes in the future!
